Wayne Halgryn is Trellidor's Export Manager.

Current position:
Trellidor Export Manager. The Trellicor Group comprises three companies, Trellidor (barrier security), Coroma (garage & industrial doors), and Roll-Up Serranda (roller shutters). It has a network of more than 40 distributors and franchisees and has a significant international foot print including 11 African countries as well as the United Kingdom, Australia and the Indian Ocean Islands, amongst others, all of which fall under my portfolio.

Born: Harare, Zimbabwe

Educated: Lomagundi College

First job: Fitting and Turning with Zimbabwe Spring Steel

Most influential person in shaping your career:
It has to be the Trellicor Group management that hired me and have guided my career within the Group. I began working for the Trellicor Group in 2004, after interviews with our CEO, Terry Dennison, marketing director, Peter Rawson, and then-financial director, Andrew Thomas. Andrew is now managing director of Trellidor, our barrier security company. I was hired as Export Africa sales consultant. Through their guidance and mentorship I have moved through the ranks to my current position, where I'm responsible for our entire export division. I'm grateful for the confidence they have shown in me as well as their encouragement and support.

Best personal achievement:
Steering Trellicor's export business to a 66% year on year growth in the 2007/2008 financial year.

Best professional achievement:
I'm very pleased with the way Trellicor has expanded its international footprint in recent years. Our distribution network enables us to access local markets in many countries to the north of us. Our Ghanaian partners, for example, have grown sufficiently to become a hub for our products in the West African region.

Greatest challenge that SA faces:
From a logistical perspective, shipping goods into Africa remains a frustration in terms of delivery delays. Bureaucracy, lack of a "common duty" concept and import tax structures are also areas of great concern as it is difficult to price products with any measure of consistency.

Business icon you most admire:
Richard Branson of "Virgin" fame.

Most meaningful quote:
"It's not what happens to you that determines how far you will go in life; it's how you handle what happens to you."

Career highlight to date:
My rapid rise from sales consultant to Trellidor Export Manager within four years. I had no idea I'd be where I am so soon! The journey hasn't been without its ups and downs, but has been well worth the ride. I'm also proud of the fact that in 2007 we achieved our export budget, after four years of hard work. This is also due to a team that has put in a great deal of work and the fact that I have a family that has stood by me with all my travelling.

Golf, woodwork and most of all, spending time with my very special family.
